Poison Ivy-Eating Goats Killed in Barn Fire

The poison ivy-eating goats used to help clear Sandy Hook of the poisonous plant were among those killed in a barn fire in upstate New York last week, according to the Asbury Park Press. The 100 goats, owned by Larry and Annlilita Cihanek , had been used to get rid of poison ivy at area national parks, but the animals were killed in the fire in Red Hook, Dutchess County, according to published reports.

Stormville Man Dead After Jumping from Beacon-Newburgh Bridge

New York State Police were called to the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge to conduct a welfare check at 7:44 p.m. Feb. 8. A Good Samaritan had contacted Dutchess County 911 after he located an unoccupied 2013 Volkswagon Jetta, stopped in the westbound lanes of the bridge span with its hazard lights flashing. Health officials cautious about measles outbreak

Officials at the New York State Department of Health confirmed a case of measles this week at Bard College downstate from an individual who traveled via Amtrak on Jan. 25 on a train that left New York City at 1:20 p.m. and went on through Albany to Niagara Falls. The Dutchess County case of the Bard student is the state's third reported case of measles this year, following two reported cases in New York City.
