New York State Police were called to the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge to conduct a welfare check at 7:44 p.m. Feb. 8. A Good Samaritan had contacted Dutchess County 911 after he located an unoccupied 2013 Volkswagon Jetta, stopped in the westbound lanes of the bridge span with its hazard lights flashing. Troopers discovered that 31-year-old Anthony M. Sinishtaj, of Stormville, had left his car and jumped from the bridge span.
